Nelson (1)

Nelson Nelson Nelson... Where to start? First of all, it feels a bit strange to write this post now that I am back to Nelson precisely, for the second time.
Nelson is an amazing city, which has my preference till now. The city is neither too big nor too small, it has about 50 000 people but it is very alive, however not too crazy busy. Just perfect. It is located in the Nelson region, on the North of the South Island. There are plenty of shops and a beach and a beautiful valley.

At my arrival, I could not find my Guesthouse so I have asked a Lady from England. She could have given me direction but in fact, she even drove me there. Very kind!! I was happy to move from that accommodation (Paradiso Backpackers) to go to another one (Downtown Backpackers) to meet my travelmates again (Sara and Lotta), but also because the staff of the hostel was a bit rude and the price pretty high. Downtown Backpacker is one of the best accommodation where I have been so far: cheap (I mean... for NZ...), small and cosy. The manager is extremely kind and helpful.

I enjoyed relaxing in Nelson and walking in the nice city center. I also went to the Queen's Garden which is incredibly beautiful and climbed up the Hill to the so called 'center of New-Zealand'. That was awesome despite the heavy rain. I also went to a lot of places to find a job, but unfortunately it did not work. So after 4 days spent in Nelson and an earthquake (my first earthquake, impressive...), I had to leave to Blenheim to find a job, since Blenheim is a place with a lot of job offers. At that time, New-Zealnd was ruining me.... But I am happy to be back to Nelson for the Christmas break, which is going to be another post later on...

Ah Nelson...

On the way to Nelson / En route vers Nelson

Just a quick post to write about the way to Nelson, since we took the ferry (53 NZD as cheapest price!!!!) to reach the South Island and had with Sara and Lotta our first hitch-hiking experience ever.
Despite the very bad weather, the landscape was awesome. The bus driver who picked us up at the harbour in Picton was kind enough to wait for Sara and dropped us to the best place for hitch-hiking.

From there, we were very lucky, because a car picked us up within 5 minutes. It was two Australian guys who were on Holidays in New-Zealand and took us in their mini-van. We had a lot of fun and ended up going to the Museum of Nelson all together. Great trip from Wellington to Nelson, great memories!
